Gurgaon: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the revitalization of the Gurgaon railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme through a virtual event on Monday. The ambitious project, estimated at Rs 300 crore, aims to modernize the station while preserving the local culture, heritage, and architectural essence.
Officials overseeing the project emphasized that the station’s design will seamlessly blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary amenities, ensuring universal accessibility for passengers. The proposed redevelopment entails the construction of a new main station building spanning eight floors, along with a roof plaza or air concourse. The roof plaza will offer connectivity from both sides of the tracks, facilitating access from primary and secondary entrances. External enhancements will include improved road access, designated pick-up and drop-off zones, canopies, and green spaces.
Union Minister of State and Gurgaon MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, revealed key details of the redevelopment plan. He outlined that three floors of the new eight-storey building will serve railway functions, one floor will be dedicated to passenger facilities, while the remaining four floors will accommodate commercial spaces, including cafes and other amenities.
Additionally, the project includes provisions for a dedicated multi-level car parking facility, spanning basement, stilt, and four upper levels, equipped with state-of-the-art security systems. Further development initiatives encompass the removal of the cement shed at Rajendra Park.
During his address, Singh highlighted the substantial investment in railway infrastructure across Haryana, with ongoing projects valued at Rs 20,000 crore. He noted that the state has received Rs 2,750 crore for railway development in the new interim budget, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing transport infrastructure.
Singh commended PM Modi’s leadership in spearheading railway development, contrasting it with previous administrations where budget allocations were often skewed towards the rail minister’s region or affiliated states, leaving regions like Haryana overlooked.
In a significant announcement, PM Modi revealed plans for the redevelopment of 554 railway stations and the construction of 1,500 road over bridges and underpasses nationwide, further underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure across the country.
