The controversy surrounding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) has escalated with four arrests revealing a stunning admission: the medical entrance exam’s question paper was leaked the day before.
Last week, nationwide protests erupted over allegations of the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak and discrepancies in grace marks awarded to over 1,500 students. Initially denied by the education minister, the scandal deepened with Bihar police arresting Anurag Yadav, Sikandar Yadavendu, Nitish Kumar, and Amit Anand.
According to their statements, they received and memorized the leaked questions, which were exact replicas in the subsequent day’s exam.
Anurag Yadav confessed, “I memorized the questions provided the night before. They matched exactly in the exam.”
Sikandar Yadavendu elaborated, “Nitish and Amit assured they could leak any competitive exam paper for ₹30-32 lakh per candidate. I agreed to help four candidates, demanding ₹40 lakh each.”
Amidst political uproar and judicial scrutiny, nearly 24 lakh students appeared for NEET-UG 2024 on May 5, with results controversially announced 10 days early amidst accusations of rigging.
Opposition parties, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, criticized the government, while Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan denied rigging allegations, dismissing them as baseless.
The Supreme Court intervened, urging the National Testing Agency to uphold fairness in the examination process, reflecting the public outcry and legal challenges surrounding NEET’s integrity.
