The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to release the date sheet for the Class 10 and 12 board exams soon. The exams are likely to begin in February 2025 and conclude in April. A previous post by PTI on X (formerly Twitter) indicated that exams are expected to start on February 15, 2025.
Since 2023, CBSE has consistently held board exams starting on February 15. In previous years, exams were held on May 4-June 7 in 2021 and April 26-May 24 in 2022. The 2025 exams will continue in the pen-and-paper format.
CBSE will also issue a separate date sheet for practical examinations. Class 12 practical exams will involve an external examiner, while Class 10 practicals will be conducted under the supervision of school teachers.
The CBSE date sheet will detail exam dates, timings, and general instructions for students. In addition to the traditional schedule, CBSE is considering implementing a semester system with biannual exams. However, the final decision on this format is still under consultation.
Officials have noted that transitioning to a biannual system will involve over 150 procedural changes in the current board exam system. The Union education ministry’s original plan was to introduce the semester-based system in the 2024-25 session, but it has been postponed by a year.
The proposed semester system for Classes 11 and 12 was outlined by the Union government-appointed national steering committee, led by former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
