A young woman advocate in Thiruvananthapuram has accused her senior lawyer, Advocate Beylin Das, of “brutally assaulting” her at his office. The incident, which allegedly occurred a day ago, has sparked outrage and legal action from the woman, identified as Shyamily. She has vowed to take steps to ensure that Das is permanently barred from practicing law.

Shyamily, who spoke to reporters outside the Medical College Hospital, where she was receiving treatment, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing police investigation. She said she hoped that Das would soon be arrested. The advocate further revealed that this was not the first time she had been assaulted by her senior. Shyamily claimed that, during an earlier incident when she was five months pregnant, Das had physically attacked her after she questioned his actions.

“I’ve always worked hard in my profession because I love law. Despite family opposition, I pursued this path and have never been negligent in my duties. No one can ever claim that I do not work hard,” Shyamily said. “However, his violent behavior is something I cannot ignore anymore. I want justice for myself and others who might have suffered similarly.”

In her statement, Shyamily revealed that she had already sent an official complaint via email to the Bar Council of India and was preparing to file a formal complaint with the Bar Association of Vanchiyoor Court. She added that Beylin Das had been suspended from the Bar Association pending the outcome of the investigation.

Regarding her injuries, Shyamily said that the doctors informed her there were no fractures or vision damage, but she had sustained significant swelling and pain. “It’s painful to speak or eat. The doctors can’t provide strong painkillers because I am breastfeeding,” she shared.

The Vanchiyoor police have filed a case against Beylin Das under several non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are actively searching for the accused, and the investigation is ongoing. Despite initial resistance from some members of the local bar association, who reportedly opposed Das’ arrest from his chambers, the case is gaining traction with increasing support from legal associations.

Shyamily’s decision to go public with her assault claims has garnered solidarity from various lawyers’ groups, who have pledged their support in her fight for justice. She stressed that her goal was not only to ensure her senior faced the consequences of his actions but also to protect future victims from similar abuse.

“I don’t know if he has assaulted anyone else before, but I don’t want anyone else to experience the pain and humiliation I went through. My aim is to see him removed from the profession forever,” Shyamily added.

The case has brought attention to issues of workplace violence and misconduct within the legal profession, sparking conversations about the importance of safeguarding employees’ rights and ensuring accountability in professional environments.
