The US has raised tariffs on Indian imports to 50%. President Donald Trump added a 25% duty after India kept buying Russian oil.
Why Tariffs?
The Trump team calls Russian oil a security issue. Vice President JD Vance said Trump used economic pressure to cut Moscow’s oil money.
Impact on Indian Exports
The 50% duty will hit textiles, jewellery, carpets, furniture, and shrimp the most. Experts warn exports may fall by 40–45% in 2025-26, risking jobs in these sectors.
India’s Reply
PM Narendra Modi said India will stand strong. He promised support to farmers and small traders, even under US pressure.
