Trump Says U.S.-India Ties Strong, Criticizes One-Sided TradeTrump Says U.S.-India Ties Strong, Criticizes One-Sided Trade

US President Donald Trump said the United States has a strong relationship with India but called the trade ties “one-sided” for years. He claimed India charged the US high tariffs while allowing its goods to enter the American market freely.

Trump cited Harley-Davidson as an example, saying the company faced a 200% tariff on motorcycles in India. “Harley-Davidson couldn’t sell into India, so they built a plant there to avoid the tariffs,” he explained.

Since August 27, Indian goods face 50% import duties in the US. New Delhi criticized the move as “unfair and unjustified.” Trump also said he will seek an expedited Supreme Court ruling after a lower court deemed many of his tariffs illegal.

A federal appeals court recently ruled that the president exceeded his authority by using “national emergencies” to impose tariffs on multiple countries. The 7–4 decision allows the tariffs to remain in place until October 14, giving the administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court.
