Dense fog and adverse weather conditions continued to disrupt flight and train operations to and from the National Capital on Tuesday. At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, numerous flights faced delays as a layer of fog enveloped the city. Additionally, around 28 long-distance trains heading to Delhi experienced delays of up to five hours or more.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s minimum temperature was anticipated to be 7 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 18 degrees Celsius. However, the recorded minimum temperature on Tuesday morning was 6.9 degrees Celsius.

Northern Railways reported delays for 28 trains, including the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Bangalore-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, Azamgarh-Delhi JN Kaifiyat Express, Banaras-New Delhi Express, and Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express, ranging from 2 to 5 hours.

IMD forecasts moderate fog until January 26 in the National Capital, with foggy conditions expected on January 27 and 28.

As the cold wave persisted in Delhi, people gathered around bonfires on Tuesday to keep warm.

Meanwhile, the IMD predicts that dense to very dense fog conditions will prevail in the morning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 26 morning.

On Monday, shallow fog affected the Jammu division, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, causing visibility challenges. Various locations reported visibility challenges, with Jammu Division recording 500-meter visibility, Patiala in Punjab recording 50-meter visibility, Delhi recording 500-meter visibility impacting flight operations, and Varanasi and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh struggling with 25-meter and 50-meter visibility, respectively.
