Heavy monsoon rains have led to school and college closures in parts of Karnataka, while waterlogging has been reported in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several districts, warning of very heavy rainfall.

Karnataka: Red Alert and School Closures

The Udupi and Kodagu districts in Karnataka are facing extremely heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to shut down schools, colleges, and anganwadi centres for the day.

In Udupi, the District Commissioner declared a holiday for all educational institutions. Similarly, in Kodagu, schools and colleges in Madikeri, Virajpet, and Somwarpet will remain closed due to continuous rain.

The IMD has issued:

  • Red alert for: Udupi, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada
  • Orange alert for: Uttar Kannada, Mysuru, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Chamarajanagar
  • Yellow warning for the rest of Karnataka

Kerala: Red Alert in Four Districts

In Kerala, the IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in four districts:

  • Red alert: Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad
  • Orange alert: Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad

Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone areas.

Rajasthan: Waterlogging in Ajmer

In Ajmer, Rajasthan, severe waterlogging was reported after moderate to heavy rains on Friday morning. While Ajmer is under a yellow alert, six other districts have been issued an orange alert for continued rainfall:

  • Tonk
  • Jhalawar
  • Chittorgarh
  • Bundi
  • Kota
  • Baran

Local authorities are working to drain flooded areas and ensure public safety.

According to the IMD, widespread monsoon rains are expected to continue across the country. Heavy rainfall is likely in parts of:

  • West Bengal
