Knife Recovered in CM Attack Case

Delhi Police said they recovered a knife allegedly carried by Rajesh Khimji Bhai Sakriya in a planned attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The incident occurred on August 20 during a public grievance hearing at her Civil Lines residence.

During interrogation, Sakriya admitted that he had brought the weapon but discarded it near the area after spotting heavy security. He reportedly picked up the knife from a vegetable vendor’s cart near New Delhi railway station.

Custody and Court Proceedings

Sakriya and his associate Tahseen (Tehsin) Syed were earlier remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Both appeared before the court via video conferencing.

Criminal Conspiracy Charges Filed

Police confirmed that criminal conspiracy charges have now been added against the accused.

A senior officer explained that evidence showed the attack was premeditated. The two men were initially booked under sections related to assault, but now face additional charges under Section 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

This section defines conspiracy as an agreement between two or more people to commit an unlawful act. Punishment can include six months imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Details of the Alleged Plot

Officials said Sakriya abandoned his plan when he noticed security arrangements at the CM’s residence. He had reportedly posed as a dog trainer to approach the location.

Investigators revealed that Sakriya and Syed had been preparing their plan for 10–15 days. They suspect Syed was the main conspirator, directing Sakriya to carry out the attempt. His possible links and background are now under review.

Security Enhanced for the Chief Minister

Following the incident, Delhi Police took over the CM’s security detail from the CRPF. The security arrangements at her residence have since been reviewed and strengthened.
