Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has moved the Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights. He said rogue websites were misusing his name, photos, and persona without consent.
This plea comes a day after his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a similar case against sites exploiting her identity.
Case Details
Bachchan’s petition targets Bollywood Tee Shop, a site selling T-shirts and merchandise using celebrity images. His lawyers argued the platform created a false endorsement and was part of growing online fraud with celebrity rights.
He requested the court to:
- Block the infringing site.
- Remove unauthorized URLs.
- Direct Google and YouTube to delete illegal content.
- Extend protection to John Doe defendants (unknown future offenders).
Wider Trend
More celebrities are moving courts to protect their digital identity. Recently, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan acted against a fake “official website” selling products with her photos.
Earlier, the Delhi HC also upheld the rights of Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff.
Why It Matters
“John Doe” orders stop misuse before it spreads. Lawyers say these rulings are key to curb fake endorsements, online fraud, and misuse of celebrity names, while protecting dignity and reputation.
