The admission process for entry-level classes in private unaided recognised schools across Delhi commenced on Friday, just a day after the Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a comprehensive set of guidelines for the 2025–26 academic session. Schools have now made public their individual point-based selection criteria, marking the formal start of one of the Capital’s most anticipated annual admission exercises.
According to the DoE’s directions, all schools are required to upload their admission parameters on the official DoE portal as well as their respective websites. This ensures transparency and allows parents to make informed decisions before applying. Schools have complied with this requirement, listing the detailed criteria that will be used to award points to applicants during the selection process.
As in previous years, distance from the child’s residence to the school remains one of the most heavily weighted parameters, with schools awarding higher points to applicants living closer to the campus. Sibling criteria applicants with brothers or sisters already enrolled in the same school also continue to receive significant value, encouraging families to keep children together in one institution.
Another long-standing criterion is the alumni category, where points are allotted if one or both parents studied in the same school. This practice, common across private institutions in Delhi, aims to maintain continuity and strengthen legacy connections within the school community.
In recent years, schools have increasingly introduced social or inclusive criteria, including additional points for applicants who are single girl children. This measure, aimed at promoting gender equity, has been welcomed by many parents. For the current session, Mount Abu Public School in Rohini is among the schools that have newly adopted this provision, offering five points to applicants who fall under the single girl child category.
Parents across the city have now begun reviewing the uploaded criteria, comparing point structures, and planning their applications as the schedule for form submission progresses. The admission season typically witnesses high competition, especially for popular schools, with thousands of applications filed in the first few weeks alone.
The DoE has reiterated that schools must adhere strictly to the notified guidelines and avoid discriminatory or non-transparent practices. Monitoring teams will oversee the process to ensure compliance, and any school found violating norms may face action.
As the admission cycle unfolds, parents are expected to closely track deadlines, verification processes, and the first list of shortlisted candidates, which is traditionally released early in the new year. For many families across Delhi, the nursery admission season marks an important milestone, often involving careful planning and considerable preparation.
