Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday shared a video showing chaos inside the Lok Sabha on February 4. The incident happened minutes before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to speak in Parliament.
The video shows several women Congress MPs moving towards the Prime Minister’s chair during loud protests. Due to the disorder, the House was adjourned without any proceedings.
The footage has sparked a political debate over parliamentary conduct and rising tensions between the BJP and the Opposition.
Speaker Warned of Possible Confrontation
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla later said the situation inside the House was tense. He explained that he advised Prime Minister Modi not to attend the session.
According to the Speaker, Opposition MPs were planning a confrontation. The atmosphere raised serious safety concerns. As the protests grew louder, officials decided to adjourn the session.
No legislative business took place that day.
Rijiju Criticises Congress MPs
After sharing the video on social media platform X, Kiren Rijiju accused Congress MPs of lowering the dignity of Parliament. He said BJP MPs showed restraint to prevent the situation from worsening.
“Congress Party is proud of the most degrading behaviour by their MPs. If we had not stopped BJP MPs, the scene could have turned ugly. We acted to protect the dignity and sanctity of Parliament,” Rijiju wrote.
He added that the ruling party avoided escalation to ensure order inside the House.
Video Highlights Tense Moments in Lok Sabha
The video reportedly shows women Congress MPs standing close to the Prime Minister’s chair. Security staff and marshals appear alert as protests continue.
Slogans can be heard in the background. Several MPs stand instead of returning to their seats. The visuals reflect a breakdown of order inside the House.
While no physical clash occurred, the incident raised questions about safety and discipline in Parliament.
BJP Raises Concerns Over Parliamentary Conduct
BJP leaders said Parliament is meant for debate, not disruption. They argued that repeated protests harm democratic functioning.
The party accused the Opposition of blocking discussions and delaying important legislation. BJP leaders also stressed the need to respect parliamentary rules.
Congress Yet to Respond Officially
The Congress Party has not issued an official response to the video or Rijiju’s remarks. In previous incidents, Opposition leaders have defended protests as a form of democratic expression.
They have also accused the government of limiting debate and ignoring Opposition voices.
Repeated Disruptions Affect Law-Making
The February 4 incident adds to a growing list of parliamentary disruptions. Many sessions in recent years have ended early due to protests and adjournments.
Such disruptions reduce time for discussion on key national issues. Experts warn that frequent chaos weakens public faith in democratic institutions.
Call for Better Parliamentary Discipline
Political observers say all parties must work to restore discipline in Parliament. Respectful debate and orderly conduct remain essential for effective law-making.
The February 4 Lok Sabha disruption highlights the deep political divide and the need for cooperation inside India’s highest law-making body.
