Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several major development projects worth ₹33,500 crore in New Delhi today. These projects aim to modernize infrastructure, expand public transport, and provide modern housing for government employees.
These launches show the government’s commitment to improving urban living, reducing travel time, and boosting the city’s economic and administrative efficiency. Moreover, experts say the projects will set a benchmark for urban planning in India.
Expansion of Delhi Metro
PM Modi will inaugurate two new Delhi Metro corridors worth ₹18,300 crore:
- Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur Pink Line corridor – 12.3 km
- Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park Magenta Line corridor – 9.9 km
These corridors will connect key areas, including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa, and Majlis Park.
As a result, commuters will travel faster. Traffic congestion will also reduce. Additionally, more residents will use public transport, lowering pollution and easing road traffic.
Phase 5-A Metro Corridors
PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase 5-A, covering over 16 km:
- R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha
- Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1
- Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj
These routes will strengthen connections between business districts, airports, and residential areas. Therefore, commuting will become more efficient.
Urban planners note that these corridors will reduce travel time and improve the quality of life for residents. Furthermore, they will attract more investment to the city.
GPRA Redevelopment Projects
PM Modi will inaugurate redevelopment projects under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan, worth ₹15,200 crore. These projects cover Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri.
The redevelopment will provide over 9,350 modern flats for government employees. In addition, it will create 48 lakh square feet of office space, which will improve administrative efficiency. The upgraded colonies will provide safe, modern, and comfortable housing for thousands of employees.
Moreover, combining housing and office space in one area will reduce commuting time and enhance productivity.
Broader Benefits
These initiatives are part of the government’s larger plan to modernize urban infrastructure, public transport, and housing. Additionally, they will reduce commuting times, improve accessibility, and raise living standards.
Urban experts say the projects will support Delhi’s growing population. Furthermore, they will help the city operate efficiently as India’s administrative and economic hub.
Economic and Social Impact
The projects will create jobs in construction and related sectors. They will also boost economic activity by improving the movement of people and goods. Moreover, the metro expansion will attract businesses and investors due to improved connectivity.
The government plans to use green building practices in redevelopment projects. Therefore, these initiatives will make Delhi more sustainable and modern at the same time.
Looking Ahead
With a total investment of over ₹33,500 crore, these projects mark a major step toward creating a connected, livable, and efficient Delhi. Citizens and government employees will benefit from modern infrastructure, world-class housing, and a more reliable public transport network.
In addition, the projects show the government’s focus on long-term urban modernization, sustainable development, and citizen-centric planning.
