NGT asks them to take action, furnish action taken report

Following a plea alleging operation of illegal water filling plants near Kashmere Gate, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi Jal Board and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to take appropriate steps and furnish an action taken report on the same.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed: “Let the Delhi Jal Board and North Delhi Municipal Corporation look into the matter, take appropriate action in accordance with law and furnish a factual and action taken report to this tribunal within one month.”

Nodal agency

The Bench in its order specified that the north civic body will be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance of the orders of the tribunal.

The directions came when petitioner Rakesh Kumar approached the green panel alleging operation of illegal water filling plants near Kashmere Gate and the Sadar Bazar area. It was alleged that the units are operating without requisite licenses and that residents were being supplied contaminated water.

While directing authorities to take action, the green panel added, “Needless to say that the order of the NGT is binding as a decree of court and non-compliance is actionable by way of punitive action, including prosecution, in terms of the NGT Act, 2010.”
